This independent report titled “An Evaluation of the Role of Fire Extinguishers” by David Wales gives an interesting insight into how portable fire extinguishers have for so long been underestimated in fire protection for residential properties. The UK Fire Association is proud to stand alongside IFEDA in supporting David Wales conclusions to encourage wider recognition and early adoption of the reports many findings. This will require reverse thinking for many involved in residential fire protection who appear to have had their views for fighting small fires in the home based more upon assumptions than facts.
This is a must read if you conduct fire risk assessments in residential properties or supply/maintain portable fire extinguishers https://www.yumpu.com/en/document/read/65405266/an-evaluation-of-the-role-of-fire-extinguishers
In April 2020 it was confirmed to the Fire Industry Association that within reason, personnel conducting vital fire protection roles are Critical Workers. The letter from the Rt Hon James Brokenshire MP Minister of State for Security at the Home Office is attached. Although this was received a while ago now this document it is still as important now as it was then if you travel and are challenged by customers or the authorities.
We recommend that you print the Home Office letter attached and carry it whenever on appropriate business travel along with an up to date general Covid-19 risk assessment document.
