It appears that an attempt is being made to resurrect Fire and Rescue Services being able to expand the services they provide into the commercial sector.
I have been copied into this development by Martin Duggan at FIA and Graham Ferris at IFEDA. Please find attached details of the CLG consultation documents regarding Fire & Rescue Services trading.
We, IFEDA and the FIA are concerned that if Fire & Rescue Services are able to trade without any restrictions they may move into the provision of services that all of our members currently provide, effectively competing against us. Conflict of interest, unfair advantage and competency all come to mind!
The consultation asks for comment directly back to CLG and therefore needs all of us that could be affected to respond by printing the consultation document that follows this in the news section, completing it and sending back to CLG at the address given before mid day on 28 July 2009. The UK FA will itself reply but it still needs your support to make the fire trades feelings known!
